The idea of perfectly designed shapes is heavily questioned in design world. Therefor craftsmanship in the 21th century is based on the wish to have real and singular products which make people more individual. Value is shifting from “form follows function” to “form follows emotion”.
While celebrating the lively character of those crafted products a new view on industrial design can be created. The way craftsman use their hands and senses can be translated on a digital level in computer-aided-design (cad) programs.
The personal experience and the multisensorial feedback is reflected while doing the material studies. For designers this way of working can create freedom and a new viewing point on their part in the creation of tomorrows products.
It is important to mention that this process is a dynamic one of learning from the material and transferring this knowledge into another medium.
